Exit Zero Lost Scene: WAKE 94.6

1. EXT – 94.6 WAKE RADIO STATION, NIGHT

The station is nothing more than a radio tower and hut squatting at the top of a clear-cut hill. Occasional candy wrappers and other bits of trash float across the dirt road and parking lot. A single bare bulb lights the doorway from above. The door is kept slightly ajar by a cigarette lighter wedged in the doorjamb. We hear MARTIN, the night guy for WAKE, off screen, as if we were the ones listening to the radio.

MARTIN
You’re listening to 94.6, WAKE, a party for the dead, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Coming up we’ve got Pinback, Cat Power, and one of my faves, Jim White. Looks like we’ve got a caller –

We cut to-

2. INT – 94.6 WAKE SOUNDROOM

MARTIN grabs the receiver, and punches the blinking extension light on the 70’s style office phone.

MARTIN
Welcome to the party, this is Martin.

CALLER
Hi. I liked that song. Play it again.

MARTIN
Sorry, Caller. No twosies. Who am I speaking with?

CALLER
Hi. I’m Zombieboy.

MARTIN
Zombieboy. Nice name. Do you have another request?

ZOMBIEBOY
Yeah. Uhm…that new Mike Doughty song. Something about a well.

MARTIN
“Looking at the World from the Bottom of a Well”.

ZOMBIEBOY
Yeah. ‘Cuz I am. It’s for Sam and the gang. They’re coming. They’ll be here soon.

MARTIN grabs a cigarette and looks for a lighter. It’s not there – it’s propping open the door.

MARTIN
Ooookay. Will do, Zombieboy. Bye, now.

MARTIN hits the broadcast button and spins the next song as he heads outside.

3. EXT - 94.6 WAKE RADIO STATION, NIGHT

As he opens the door and leans down to grab the cigarette lighter, we see headlights coming up the road. It’s not Sam and the gang. A pristine, bronzed-brown Dodge Dart, kicks up dirt and debris as it screeches to a halt in the parking lot. MARLOWE slips from the driver’s seat, leaves the car running, and purposefully walks toward MARTIN and the door. All we hear is static, the radio station broadcast disrupted by MARLOWE’s proximity. MARTIN slams the door shut as the static increases in volume and we

SMASH to BLACK

Yep - this is a liner note from the WAKE 94.6 compilation CD.

The new liner notes for the thinpak CD cases don't have room for the text, so I added the URL to the playlist and popped this up here for folks to read.

New stuff coming soon, Mikey. "Hiking Tartarus" and "Glass Houses, Issue 2" are in the works at this very moment. :)

Cheers!

I'd love to work on a project with you once your current gig is done.

Count me in.

Cheers!

Dave, saw this post over on rpg.net today. Matthew Sprague is a good guy. You should give this a shot if you want to write full time.

Hi guys,

Mongoose is considering opening a new vacancy in our ranks for a Background/Setting Writer. This is a full-time, home-based position which would require the successful candidate to create expanded material based on established universes. No gaming knowledge is required, but a solid understanding of the licensed properties Mongoose works with is an absolute must, as is a published history.

Interested individuals should submit the following details to msprange@mongoosepublishing.com

CV/Resume
Details of published work
Reasonable expectation of salary
Two 800 word articles based on any subject of your choice, set within any two of the following universes; Conan, Starship Troopers, Babylon 5, or Judge Dredd.

Submissions missing one or more of the items above will be summarily eaten!
